Makeup for work

As a makeup artist coming from a corporate industry, I learned some pretty neat tricks for a quick and easy every day makeup routine that would fool everyone into thinking you spent hours putting that look together. To me, it’s all about skin, brows and colour. If you can pull these 3 off, you’re all set!

Step 1 – Primer

For a flawless finish, dewy skin and a look that lasts all day, this is a must! I’ve used the Stila One Step Illuminate primer. Apply a drop of this after your daily moisturiser and lightly smooth the product over your whole face.

Step 2 – Foundation

Foundation should look like skin, providing the necessary coverage and evening out the skin tone. Most importantly it should be a perfect match to your natural skin tone. This should not be applied to be thick and pasty. The Stila Stay All Day foundation allows for an even coverage with a dewy but matt like finish. No powder needed and it literally STAYS ALL DAY!

Step 3 – Contour

It’s important to enhance and add some definition to certain areas of the face. For this we use the Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter and the Stila Stay All Day Face and Body Bronzer. We apply the Bronzer to the shade under the cheek bones, chin, the sides of the nose and the temples of the forehead, it differs from face shape to face shape, but these are the basic areas we shade. We then add a highlighter to the top of the cheek bones, the top of the nose and the top of the lip area.

Step 4 – Eye shadow

There are so many myths and insecurities about eye shadow and it all comes down to the correct placing and blending. Once you know how to do this, you’ll be flying high with confidence and application. Stila makes this so easy for us, they offer a Perfect Me Perfect Hue palette with the correct shades for each skin tone. It’s available in Fair to Light, Light to Medium, Medium to Tan and Tan to Dark. Thus, by purchasing the correct palette for your skin tone, you can use all the eye and blush colours provided and it would be a perfect fit! I’ve used the Light to Medium and the Medium to Tan palette for this corporate look. Apply a light matt or shimmery shade to the inner corner of the eye and just underneath the brow. Apply a matt or shimmery medium colour to the whole lid and underneath the eye area where you would normally apply liner. This brings the top and bottom together to complete the look and enhance the eye. Finish off with a layer or two of mascara on the top and bottom lash.

Step 5 – Blush

Once again the Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue provides the perfect blush colour for your skin tone. Apply this on the apple of the cheek for some glowy freshness.

Step 6 – Lipstick

This is where the real trick comes in and the obvious pop of colour! Without added colour to the lips, this look might still seem a bit dull as the final focus point, especially when it comes to colour, is the lips. I’m totally in love with the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery and Patina. They offer the perfect pop of colour for any look and they will keep those lips looking pretty for the full 9-5!

This might seems time consuming, but it’s literally a 15 minute look that would turn heads, add glow and be that pop of colour in the season of Summer!
